I have never imagined Dubrovnik as a honeymoon destination, until my last vacation. It blew me away when I discovered tiny romantic places surrounding it.
Beyond doubt, few places can be compared to the Old City; and it is not without a reason that it carries the name “Pearl of the Adriatic”. However, my advice is to escape to one of the paradisiac islands or hidden neighboring villages. You will not be disappointed; as you will surely find the perfect place to spend your honeymoon; since you can experience romance, culture and nature all at once.
Here’s my Top 5.
Lopud is one of my favourite islands, with its fresh air, landscape and art galleries. If you are a lover of sandy beaches like me, then Sunj beach is the spot for you. Rent the sunbed and just chill all day long.
Sipan is a perfect getaway for food lovers. The island is really quiet; and you will definitely find your dream beach with a restaurant serving homemade food, where you can spoil your taste buds in privacy.
Cavtat is a charming city with tiny winding streets and traditional architecture. It is rich with culture, art and history. It’s the place to discover big names of Croatian painting. The nature merges perfectly with the pine forest enveloping the beaches nested all along the picturesque peninsula.
Trsteno is a home to the oldest botanical garden in the region. Hidden gem is a bay at its bottom, where you can swim in privacy after the leisurely stroll. If that’s not enough, just across the entrance to the garden is a family restaurant serving fresh fish. No catch, no dinner. Perfect romantic dinner getaway.
Zaton is well hidden and quiet romantic place. Mingle with locals (don’t be surprised if you get invited to join a game of petanque), enjoy the beaches, nature and gastronomy (you have to try milk skin cake). Peaceful night walk along Zaton’s coastline will be your quintessential honeymoon ritual. Conveniently located, it will serve as a perfect hub if you feel adventurous and want to visit all the other places too.
